Reflection

You did it! You are infinitely smarter now than when we first met 180+ days ago. You persevered through a rigorous trial but you still have challenges ahead. Hopefully now you can answer the question we asked at the beginning of the year (Why are you here?). For our final blog post I want you to consider each of the following and write a few sentences about each.
  1. reflect back on your first year and share a moment or two that you remember most fondly
  2. what was your most difficult challenge
  3. and finally, share with us what your plans are for the summer
It was a pleasure working with you all and I will miss you. Good luck on your finals!

  1. My first year of high school was a lot like riding a ferris wheel. Sometimes I felt like I was on cloud nine because I was making new friends and experiencing so many new things. But other times were pretty rough because I wasn't very good at some of the new things I was trying. Times like those left me frustrated and upset, but the most important thing I learned in freshman year was how to handle these setbacks. I will definitely use this sense of determination all through my next 3 years here at SSHS. One of my favorite days throughout this whole school year was “Galentine's Day.” My friends and I brought cupcakes in at lunch to celebrate Valentine's Day with just us girls.
My most difficult challenge this year has been managing my time efficiently. It was a struggle to figure out how to do this at first, but after a few weeks of exams and homework assignments, I learned to manage my schedule and adhere to all of my due dates.
My plans for the summer are to live at my beach house in Breezy Point, NY and work as a camp counselor at my beach club. This will be my first time working with my older sister and I am very excited. My family and I will also be visiting my abuelo and my abuela in Oregon at the end of July.

  2. My first year here was full of so many things, and emotions, and other stuff that I don't really know how to describe it. I got a group of friends who did all kinds of things with and for me. They walked me home, lifted the weight of my bag off of my shoulders, decorated my locker, went on mini adventures with me, stayed up late Face Timing me, bonded with me over 1D, let me vent, helped me with my problems, and dealt with me when I was really emotional. It was fun and full of friendly love, yet crazy and stressful. One time I was really upset and one of my friends gave me a long hug and spent the day making me feel better. It totally worked and the more I look back at it the more fond I become of what that moment meant and of that person.

My greatest challenge this year was not with school, but in my personal life. In my personal life I wanted to normalize because my life had been so crazy for so long due to all kinds of crazy situations. I have gotten better, but did not fully normalize everything that I wanted to.

My plans for the summer are to try to see my friends for the only 2 weeks in which it will be possible for me to do so. The rest of it I will be away in a little nowhere, can't even call it a town, kind of place upstate. While I'm there I'm going to do a whole lot of nothing. I'll watch a lot of tv, sleep all day, stay up all night, and just fully take advantage of not having to do much work over the summer.

  3. I remember the first day I came to St. Saviour. I was extremely nervous especially since I knew no one. It was nerve-wrecking. But after some time I got to know others.
The most difficult challenge that I faced was getting organized. I was never good at organization so it was difficult for me to get my stuff together.
My plans for the summer will be to study more and do my homework so I can be prepared for next year.

  5. My first year of High School was stressful, confusing, and at times a lot to handle. However, at the same time I constantly found myself surrounded by people that were there to support me and tell me that it was going to get better. There are many moments that I will always remember and cherish, from that first awkward conversation in the lunchroom that ranged from books to the choking sign in the cafeteria, to Song contest, to Christmas celebrations, to watching YouTube videos together, and even playing Minecraft.

My greatest challenge this year was "Don't give up."Many times throughout the school year I would feel overwhelmed and discouraged and I had to work hard to keep trying. One special person reminded me of that saying, something to the effect of Benjamin Franklin never giving up on all his experiments, and this once again, reminded me that I was surrounded by amazing friends who were there to support me, and for that I am extremely grateful.

My plans for this summer include hanging out with friends, catching up on sleep, and watching Forth of July fireworks for the first time in 4 years (I was usually at Sleep away Camp during the forth of July and we didn't see fireworks, so I'm very excited.) Also since I couldn't do much in the summer for the last four years (because I was gone for about half of it) I'm looking forward to more experiences and opportunities, which includes volunteering at the zoo.(We'll see how it goes.

  6. Freshman year of high school was stressful, yet very rewarding. I have met many amazing and supportive people who have helped me and each other get through these stressful times. I can clearly recall the first day of school and how awkward it was stepping into a room full of strangers, but now we’re all best friends. Our freshman year was full of major school events like Song Contest and the Drama play. We have had many crazy adventures, whether in Prospect Park or on Minecraft and we’ve fangirled over shared interests (ahem... Tom Holland, Tom Holland, Tom Holland, etc.) We’ve become one big, happy (and very complicated) family. I am so grateful to have met these crazy people and hope to make more crazy memories.
My greatest challenge this year was trying to figure out how to manage my time. I’m a heavy believer in more than 6 hours of sleep and I try to complete all my work at a reasonable time. So far, I’ve been able to do it, but it definitely took some sacrifice. (AKA- less hours dedicated to Netflix)

My summer plans include sleeping, catching up on reading, and completing a summer bucket list with my friends. I also want to binge watch a new series on Netflix (I’m open to suggestions). My family and I are also going on vacation to the Carolinas in early July and a European cruise in early August.

  7. My first year of high school was an interesting one; it was filled with ups and downs, and- much to my disappointment- was nothing like the High School Musical movies. I've made great friends who I can rely on and count on for support, advice, help, and smile, and even a fangirl moment. I have some pretty great memories and a VERY small handful of not so great ones. One of my favorites is going for lunch with Mary, Nicole, Jaslin, Elisa after one of our midterms. It was first adult-free dinning experience at a "real" restaurant, and I kept panicking about dumb things like the bill, and whether we were too loud, or if we weren't good tippers, but everything ended up being fine. My other favorite memory would Cultural Harmony Day, because there was a lot of food, and a lot of fun performances.
My most difficult challenge was trying to overcome some mental health issues, I've had to deal with a lot on my plate, but my friends helped through them.
My summer is basically free at the moment. I intend on watching some new TV shows, maybe re-watching some old favorites, and going upstate.

  8. During my freshman year of high school I was very excited to meet new people and start off in a different area, which where I have never lived before. I had had many goals at the beginning of the year, like giving all my homework in when it was due, passing all my tests with 90s or more, and getting principal's list each quarter. Even though I was stressed and stayed up late most nights, I have many found memories with the Friend's I have made and the classes I have been in. An example would be in computer class, when my friend Lauren was making the avengers. She made them look so weird that I couldn't stop laughing. Another one would be when I went to the school's play to support my friends who were acting in the play. They were amazing playing the part of their characters; they were so funny that I also cried at a few parts.
The most difficult challenge for me would be when I had to study for midterms, and even now when I have to study for finals. I don't have a photographic memory like many of my piers, so I study day and night so I can remember all of my subjects. I stay up late and it really doesn't help when my mom yells at me to go to bed. Even though the midterms and finals are difficult I know that all my hard work will pay off. After I take finals and school is over I plan to finish my summer homework and to help my aunt at her bakery. I also want to practice my violin and piano, join a public school summer camp, and go for a week up state with some of my friends. This is what I remember from freshman year and what I plan to do for the summer

  9. I had a great freshman year, it really was a good way to start off high school! I met new people, experienced new places, and learned new things! The best parts were probably my lunch periods with all my friends, history matters trips, hanging out in Barnes and Nobel after school, and Enrichment Day. I joined different clubs, such as the Art Club, History Matters, Gaelic Society, and most recently, Yearbook. The most challenging thing about this year was managing my time and study skills. After a LOT of hard work and effort, I found that Quizlets and staying in the library to do homework works best for me. I am kicking off my summer by visiting my grandma and aunt in Florida and we're going to go to Disney World together! After that, I will be working as a camp counselor at RAA in Fort Tilden. Have a great summer!!! :)

  11. Freshman year has been fun, stressful, and full of surprises. My most fond memories are the ones I spent with my friends. For my birthday, my friends decorated my locker, got me gifts, and a card, which I cherish,it is currently hanging on the inside of my locker. It's nice to have friends I know I can count on, and will be with me during my weirdest hours. The most difficult challenge that I dealt with this year was procrastinating and finding a way of study effective for me. While I have found a way to effectively study, I am still working on my problem with procrastination. For my summer vacation, my Dad who lives in Connecticut has signed me up for a variety of basketball summer camps.
